Mid-June to mid-October, when Kunzum La and the Manali–Kaza road are usually open. The Shimla–Kinnaur side stays open longer but winters are very cold.
Why start from the Shimla side?
Going up slowly through Kinnaur lets your body adjust to the altitude before Kaza (about 3,800 m). It is the safer direction.
What happens if a road or pass is closed?
Mountain roads can close because of snow or landslides. We confirm the route close to your date and offer the best alternative if something is closed.
